Scatter charts plot individual data points using two measures as X and Y coordinates. Use them to explore relationships between measures, identify clusters, and spot outliers across a population of entities.

Variants

Basic scatter

Two measures on the X and Y axes. Each row in your result set becomes one point.

With color grouping

Pick a dimension in the Series slot to color the points by category. Use this to compare how different groups distribute across the same two measures.

With size encoding

Map a third numeric measure to the Size slot to scale each point’s radius by value. Use this to encode a third variable without adding a new axis.

Size encoding

Assign a measure to the Size slot in the Fields tab. Points scale proportionally to the measure value. Configure the minimum and maximum radius in the Style tab. A scatter chart takes X-Axis, Y-Axis, Series and Size rather than the measure sections the other cartesian charts use, and has no orientation switch. See Fields.

Point appearance

The measure’s row in its axis section on the Style tab carries a Shape picker — Circle, Square, Triangle, Diamond, or None — and a Trend line toggle that draws a dashed least-squares regression line through the points.

Tooltips

The fields the chart draws appear in the tooltip by default. Check or uncheck the query’s columns in the Tooltips row of the Fields tab. See Tooltips for details.
